Which Cars Have Wet Belts? UK Engine & Model Guide

Wet timing belts are fitted to a number of popular UK cars and vans, but there is no reliable rule that says every engine carrying a particular badge uses the same system. The safest way to answer “which cars have wet belts?” is to work from the exact engine and application, not just the model name.

Ford cars and vans with wet belts

The best-known Ford wet-belt application is the older non-hybrid 1.0 EcoBoost family. EDH has confirmed exact codes including SFJA and M1JE as wet cam timing-belt applications, alongside other confirmed older 1.0 codes in the same family.

But it is incorrect to say every Ford EcoBoost has a wet belt. EDH’s rules also contain Ford 1.5 EcoBoost four-cylinder applications that use a conventional dry belt and a 1.5 EcoBoost three-cylinder Fiesta ST application that uses a chain. Some newer 1.0 mild-hybrid applications are also chain-driven.

Ford EcoBlue needs the same care. Selected 1995cc Panther 2.0 EcoBlue codes such as BCFB, BKFB, YMDA and YLDC are confirmed wet timing-belt applications in our data. Other Ford diesels, including VW-derived 1968cc applications, should not be swept into the same rule.

Peugeot and Citroën cars with wet belts

Many non-hybrid 1.2 PureTech EB2-family engines use a belt-in-oil cam timing system. These engines appear across Peugeot and Citroën models including examples in the 208, 2008, 308, 3008, C3 and C4 ranges.

That does not mean every Peugeot or Citroën has a wet belt. A Peugeot 107 1.0 petrol, for example, is a Toyota-derived chain-driven application in our confirmed rules. Newer PureTech hybrid applications can also differ from earlier non-hybrid EB2 engines.

Do Vauxhalls have wet belts?

Selected Vauxhall models use Stellantis 1.2 petrol engines from the PureTech/EB2 family and can therefore be wet-belt applications. The Corsa, Mokka, Crossland and Grandland are common models people ask us about. Again, the precise engine and hybrid status matter more than the badge alone.

Why a model list can never be completely definitive

Manufacturers change engines during a model’s production life. The same model year can also contain vehicles built to different specifications. Engine codes, valve configuration, fuel type, capacity, power output and hybrid status can all be decisive. That is why a list is useful for screening, but a registration and exact application are better for the final answer.

What if my car is not on this list?

It does not automatically mean it has no wet belt. This guide concentrates on common applications that generate the most UK enquiries. Use the registration checker and, if the application cannot be safely classified, EDH will return a manual-confirmation result rather than inventing an answer.
