Selected modern Vauxhall models use Stellantis 1.2 petrol engines from the same broad PureTech/EB2 family found in Peugeot and Citroën vehicles. Many non-hybrid applications use a wet cam timing belt, but the answer depends on the exact engine and application.
Corsa, Mokka, Crossland and Grandland model names are not enough on their own because engines and hybrid systems changed during production.
Which Vauxhalls can have a wet belt?
Common enquiries include 1.2 petrol versions of the Vauxhall Corsa, Mokka, Crossland and Grandland built on Stellantis platforms. EDH has confirmed non-hybrid EB2-family engine codes such as EB2ADTD in relevant Vauxhall applications as wet timing-belt engines.
That does not mean every Corsa, Mokka or Grandland is a wet-belt car. Older Vauxhall engines, different capacities and later hybrid variants can use completely different timing systems.
Why Vauxhall model and year are not enough
Once Vauxhall models began sharing Stellantis engine families, the same broad 1.2 petrol description could cover different generations and powertrains. Exact engine code, fuel type and hybrid status therefore matter more than a simple year cut-off.
Do newer Vauxhall 1.2 engines use a chain?
Some later hybrid applications do, but the change cannot be applied to every vehicle after one registration year. Non-hybrid EB2 applications can remain wet-belt engines while later petrol-electric engines with different identifiers can be chain-driven.
Vauxhall wet-belt problems and warning signs
- Oil-pressure warning
- Engine-management warning
- Rough running or misfire
- Loss of power or limp mode
- Unusual engine noise
- Oil-system contamination where belt material has degraded
These symptoms are not unique to wet belts. Diagnosis is important because replacing a belt will not fix an unrelated oil-pressure, ignition or fuelling fault. Equally, a vehicle with no symptoms can still have unknown replacement history.
Can I tell if the wet belt has already been changed?
Look for a specific dated invoice or workshop record that identifies the timing-belt replacement. A visual look cannot reliably date the belt or certify its remaining life. If the history is missing, read our replacement-history guide.
How much does a Vauxhall wet belt cost?
The exact engine and scope of work determine the quote. Timing components, labour, oil and filter, seals, oil-pump drive where applicable, and contamination already present can all affect the job. That is why EDH quotes from the registration rather than advertising one price for every Vauxhall.
