Wet belt warning signs
A wet belt problem can be difficult to spot early because the belt runs inside the engine. Unlike a visible external belt, you cannot simply open the bonnet and check its condition. That is why knowing the warning signs is important.
Oil pressure warning light
One of the most serious symptoms is an oil pressure warning light. As a wet belt deteriorates, particles from the belt can contaminate the oil and may block the oil pickup strainer. This can reduce oil flow and put the engine at risk.
Engine noise and poor running
Another possible warning sign is unusual engine noise. This may include rattling, ticking or rough running. Some drivers also notice reduced performance, poor starting, misfires or general engine hesitation.
Service history can be a warning sign
A wet belt issue may also be suspected if the vehicle has an uncertain service history. Wet belt systems are sensitive to oil quality, so using the wrong oil or delaying oil changes can increase the risk of premature belt degradation.
