A wet timing belt runs inside the engine oil. On applications that use this design, deterioration can release belt material into the oil system, restrict the oil pick-up and increase the risk of low oil pressure or serious engine damage. We do not assume a vehicle has a wet belt just because of its model name or marketing badge. Ford EcoBoost, EcoBlue and Stellantis PureTech families contain different timing arrangements depending on the exact engine, year, fuel type, hybrid status and engine code. We start with the registration and vehicle data, then confirm the application before the job is agreed.

Ford EcoBoost and EcoBlue wet belt work
Ford is one of the main reasons owners contact us, but not every EcoBoost or EcoBlue is built the same way. Older non-hybrid 1.0 EcoBoost applications include confirmed belt-in-oil engines, while other EcoBoost engines use conventional dry belts or timing chains. Ford EcoBlue is similarly application-specific: some 1995cc Panther engines use a wet cam timing belt and an internal oil-pump belt, while other diesel applications use different arrangements.

Peugeot, Citroën, DS and Vauxhall PureTech wet belts
Many non-hybrid 1.2 PureTech EB2-family applications use a belt-in-oil cam timing system. Later vehicles can differ, particularly where hybrid systems and newer engine codes are involved. A registration year alone is not enough to make the decision safely.
If you drive a Peugeot 208, 2008, 308, 3008, Citroën C3 or C4, or a Vauxhall model such as a Corsa, Mokka, Crossland or Grandland with a 1.2 petrol engine, use the checker or send us the registration before assuming what is fitted. Our PureTech engine guide explains why engine code matters.
Can a wet belt simply be checked?
A visual look at a belt cannot certify its remaining life or prove that the oil system is free from contamination. It also cannot reliably prove when the belt was last replaced. Service invoices, parts records and a documented replacement history are far stronger evidence. If replacement history is missing and the confirmed application is due or at risk, replacement is the meaningful preventative action rather than relying on a visual “pass”.
Warning signs that need prompt attention
A vehicle can have a deteriorating wet belt without an obvious early symptom. Where symptoms do occur, oil-pressure warnings, engine-management warnings, rough running, loss of performance, unusual engine noise or evidence of contamination deserve proper investigation. An oil-pressure warning should never be treated as a routine wet-belt reminder: stop and seek professional advice because continued driving can increase engine damage.
What determines the quote?
The price depends on the exact engine and what the confirmed job requires. Labour time, timing components, whether an oil-pump belt is fitted, sump or pick-up cleaning, seals, fluids and any damage already present can all change the work. We therefore quote from the registration and application rather than advertising one price for every wet-belt vehicle.
